Fall has certainly arrived.  The air is crisp, the color of the leaves is changing, and the sweaters are getting thicker.  And what are seniors up to during the Fall?  Well, senior citizens may be moving to warmer climates for the winter months…or they might be running for president.  College seniors are probably working as hard as they ever have in college as they look towards graduate schools and careers.  And high school seniors are applying to colleges, which is obviously a HUGE next step.

At UMBC we have two deadlines to apply for Undergraduate admission.  Our first deadline of November 1 marks our Early Action decision period.  November 1 is literally right around the corner, I mean I can almost feel it because it is so close.  Don’t fret however; we also have a Regular Decision application period with a deadline of February first.  You may be asking yourself, “What is the difference between these two dates?”  That is certainly a great question if I have ever heard one, and the answer is that the November 1 deadline is in November and the February 1 deadline is in February.   HA!  I’m sure you are laughing out loud at that joke!  But in all seriousness, the difference between the two deadlines is that students who apply by November 1 and are admitted during the Early Action period receive priority consideration for scholarships and financial aid, as well as these students receive their admissions decision earlier (usually around mid-December).  If you decide to apply for EA it is important to note that any students not admitted during this decision period are automatically reconsidered during the Regular Decision period without needing to reapply.

To apply to UMBC you will complete our application online (also a $50 application fee), submit your official high school transcripts, send your official SAT and/or ACT scores, and complete the required essay.  We also highly suggest that students submit letters of recommendation (although they are not required), and they can come from your teachers or your counselors.

Good luck with your applications, high school seniors!  Please let us know if you have any questions about applying to UMBC.  You can leave a comment here on the post, or contact the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at admissions@umbc.edu.  Have a great weekend!
