Despite all the craziness that I’m sure is happening during your senior year, I’m going to add yet another item to the list. I’m sure right now you’re all swamped with applications, essays, finals, jobs, extracurriculars, and about anything else I can imagine, but in the midst of all those things comes a very important item for any college bound young person…FAFSA! The FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and it is a must complete form for anyone wanting to be considered for financial aid in college. The FAFSA form is available to fill out online at fafsa.ed.gov and I certainly suggest completing the form online instead of the hard copy. When you fill the FAFSA out online you will be walked through all the steps and if you did need to go back and correct any information, it is quite easy to do. As a student, you will need to fill out the FAFSA with your parent, and both you and your parent will need a pin number for the online form.
The FAFSA is due to UMBC by February 14th so we use the phrase “Apply Online by Valentine’s” to make it easy to remember. For more information on the FAFSA and UMBC (including our FAFSA code and a link to the website) please visit the following webpage: http://www.umbc.edu/financialaid/. And as always, please feel free to contact us here at the Undergraduate Admissions Office with any questions you may have.
