On the last day of classes here at UMBC, I’d like to use this blog to congratulate all of our graduating seniors and wish them luck! No need to attempt to hide that tear that falls as you step out of your last UMBC lecture (or the whoop you might spontaneously emote–your reaction depends on what that last lecture is, I suppose). We understand. Finishing up college is both exciting and scary, but we know you’re all well-prepared, judging by the prestigiuos list of graduate schools and positions that UMBC’s grads snag every year. For example, in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, our own Vanessa will head off to pursue her PhD in American Studies at the University of Iowa after she tosses her cap here at UMBC. Many others will also head to graduate school next fall–last year our graduates were admitted to programs everywhere from Duke to Harvard to the University of Michigan and beyond. Others headed right into the workforce, securing positions with employers large and small, including Lockheed Martin, NASA, DuPont, Northrup Grumman, and a whole slew of other corporations, public schools, nonprofits, and government agencies. Last year we had a few Fulbright scholarship recipients, as well. I’ll be sure to share with you the plans of more of this year’s graduates as soon as I have the updates!
While I’m on the subject of graduating seniors, I’d also like to congratulate those of you who will soon graduate from high school. You’re almost there! We at UMBC wish you all the best and look forward to welcoming many of you to campus this summer! Feel free to keep in touch with us over the next few months as you prepare for orientation, moving to campus, etc. Let us know if there’s anything we can do to assist you in making a smooth adjustment to college life at UMBC!
