Who you gonna call? Your Financial Aid Counselor!

That’s right! The Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships has Financial Aid Counselors for each student, based on your last name.  Any time you have any questions or concerns regarding your financial aid, you can contact your counselor directly for more help.  We are always happy to help our students! Remember, if you would like to come in to the office to meet with your counselor, you need to have an appointment.  To set up an appointment you need to contact your counselor directly and arrange a time for you to come in to the office.  If you do not need an appointment, then we can always be reached by phone and/or email.  For a list of counselors and their contact information, please visit our website at http://www.umbc.edu/financialaid/contact.html.

It is important to note, that if your parents, guardians, or anyone else involved in your financial aid process contacts your counselor, there must be an Authorization for Release of Information form on file in order for us to release any detailed information to them.  Your financial aid is private, personal, and protected, and we will only release information to people you give permission.  If you would like to give permission to someone, you will need to complete and submit the form to the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships.  The Authorization for Release of Information form is found on our website at http://www.umbc.edu/financialaid/forms.html.  General questions can always be asked at the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships front desk or by calling our general phone line at 410-455-2387; no authorization forms needed.

The Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships is open Monday through Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm.  Our office is located pond side in the lower level of the library, adjacent to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and Orientation.

The 2012-13 academic year processing has begun!  The Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships began processing financial aid for the 2012-13 academic year at the end of March.  Be sure you are checking your myUMBC account for any updates and to view your award package.  To access your award screen, go to “Billing and Personal Finances” under the Topics tab on your myUMBC homepage, then select “Financial Aid Inquiry,” and finally select the academic year.  Here you will be able to view your financial aid package.  Remember, we do not send out any paper notifications; all notifications are sent electronically to your myUMBC account.

If you have not yet received an award package for the 2012-13 academic year, be sure to review your alerts, you could have missing information on your account.  If you have missing information or documents, we will notify you via your myUMBC account.  We will post an alert to your account letting you know that you have outstanding to-do’s regarding your financial aid.  Your to-do’s describe what information or documents you need to submit in order to have your financial aid processed.  If you have any questions about your alerts or to-do’s you should contact your Financial Aid Counselor for more information.
