Happy November! Believe it or not, we have a few visit opportunities left for those of you who are still deciding if UMBC could be your home for college!

This coming Monday, November 7th, is our last Retriever Day of the fall. This is a great opportunity for potential students to see what our amazing university has to offer. You can meet with students, faculty, and staff from all over campus and learn more about our community!

UMBC will also host a Transfer Open House on Friday, November 18th. This is a great time for all of our transfer applicants and prospective transfer applicants to come to campus and get a feel for what life is like as a transfer student at UMBC. Learn about the transition and social atmosphere on campus, the academic offerings provided, and the support around campus to assist you in succeeding and achieving in a major way!

We’re Coming to Your City!

That’s right! The UMBC admissions counselors are back on the road. For my part, I’ll be travelling in Connecticut, New York, and Delaware out of state and Harford and Carroll Counties in state.

Make sure to check your high school guidance counselor to see when we will be visiting! Also make sure to check local college fairs before you head out to make sure you don’t miss us.

We can’t wait to bring UMBC to YOU!

Summer Preview Day!!!

We are less than a month away from one of our favorite events of the year, Summer Preview Day! On Friday, August 5th, students and their families will be able to learn more about admission, financial aid and scholarships, residential life, the Honors College, student activities, and more. Guests will also have an opportunity to go on a tour led by our enthusiastic student guides. If you are a rising high school senior, this is a great event for you to get to know more about UMBC before applying later on in the year.

I hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day!

If you haven’t already finished school, I’m sure you are counting down the days. For those who have already graduated, CONGRATS!

You should all be very proud of yourselves and more importantly excited that you have completed one milestone and will now be on your way to a new journey this fall! As you will soon learn, UMBC students are well known for their hard work, innovation, diversity, and creativity.

As you prepare yourself for Orientation and starting your first year at UMBC, I encourage you to discover where you fit in The House of Grit.

May 1st is On it’s Way!

Congratulations to all of our accepted seniors who are making up their minds if UMBC will be their home over the next 4 years. We would love to have you join our campus community and be another amazing Retriever Believer!

As many of you are likely aware, May 1st is the national deposit deadline for you to declare your intent to attend UMBC or any other university nationally. To accept your admission offer to UMBC, you will need to accept it via your myUMBC account and submit your enrollment deposit to secure your place in the class of 2020. Make sure you put your best paw forward!

We’re back!

Hello all!

We are happy to announce that we are back to our normal business hours! Although the University is open, the first day of classes will be tomorrow, Thursday, January 28th.

I hope everyone stayed safe and warm was able to catch up on work, shows, and much needed sleep!

…and of course, play in the snow! Here’s a picture of my puppy super annoyed because I kept taking pictures instead of letting him play.

 

I’d also like to remind everyone that our Regular Decision deadline is February 1st! That is this coming Monday! Make sure you are logging into your myUMBC account to make sure we have all of your application materials.

Sealed and Ready To Go!

The moment you’ve all been waiting for has arrived!

Letters have been released!

 

 

I know you all worked very hard to submit applications and supporting documents by November 1^st. Our admissions counseling staff has also been working diligently to read every completed application that was submitted. This year we had over 5,000 Early Action applications and we are so excited to finally send out decisions! We appreciate how patient you have been, I understand how nerve-wracking this time can be.

 

There are two possible decisions you can receive in the mail and I will expand on exactly what they mean:

1. Early Action

YES! Congratulations! It is a wonderful experience to receive admission to a college or university, and even more exciting if this is your first decision letter.

 

Your admissions packet contains plenty of information about UMBC, Orientation, Student Life, and Living on Campus.  Once spring rolls around, we will be hosting various events, both on and off campus, for newly admitted students. Be on the look-out for those dates in the near future!

You will have until May 1^st to submit your enrollment deposit so you have some time to decide on the best fit institution for you. Please contact our office if you have any questions in the meantime.

2.  Deferred

For Early Action review, in addition to offers of admission, we send notifications that an application has been deferred to Regular Decision for further consideration. This does not mean you have not been admitted! If you receive a deferral letter, don’t be discouraged, our Early Action review is more competitive than Regular Decision. We will begin sending Regular Decision letters in late February. As always, feel free to contact our office if you have any questions!

 

Once again, thank you for all of your applications! We truly enjoyed reading them and getting to learn a little more about our future Retrievers!

Where Are All of My Early Action Applicants?!

Hello Future Retrievers,

I know that a lot my high school seniors are anxious to know when you can officially call yourself a Retriever like our friend Kermit.

I am here to tell you not to stress! The Undergraduate Admissions Staff are hard at work reviewing applications.  We will be sending out decision letters by mid-to-late December, just before the holiday break.  Can you  believe we’re already in the month of December?! That means you have to be patient for just a few more weeks.

I hope that I was able to ease your minds! Also, please make sure that you are monitoring your myUMBC account to make sure we have a completed application for you in our systems!

Remember to enjoy your senior year to the fullest without catching Senioritis!  The holiday season is right around the corner!!!
