Next week, our graduating seniors will be walking across the stage and entering a new chapter of their lives. As we prepare for commencement, the UMBC community would like to honor our soon-to-be graduates for all they have achieved in their time as Retrievers, and the legacies they will leave as they take their next steps.
You can meet some of UMBC’s exceptional new graduates and our very own Undergraduate Fellow, Kaitlin Smith, by clicking here!
Stay tuned to find out how to watch a live feed of our Spring Commencement Ceremony on Thursday, May 25, 2017, at 1:00 pm.
As always be sure to follow us on our other social media accounts @UMBCadmissions!
Following May 1st, we want to welcome and congratulate the incoming Retriever Class of 2021!
You all put in a tremendous amount of work throughout high school and we could not be more excited to start working with you!
Next on your checklist to UMBC should be orientation. Orientation is an incredibly important event in your college transition. It will help you get in touch with other new Retrievers, the UMBC campus community, and get you in contact with campus life and academic resources. One of the most important pieces of your orientation will be registering for your fall classes! An academic advisor will help you in a one-on-one setting to ensure you start on the right path to graduation from day one.
If you have not already registered for orientation, you can do it right now on your computer! All you have to do is visit http://orientation.umbc.edu/ and pick a day that works for you. While you are there, check the “Before Orientation” tab to make sure you are all ready to go on once you arrive. This could include ensuring you have already completed placement testing, sent us any advanced credit scores (like AP testing) from high school, and collecting any miscellaneous paperwork that is needed like health forms.
If you need any help, feel free to call our office or send us an email. We can’t wait to see you this summer!
We know you have a lot to decide prior to the May 1st deadline. As a reminder, you will now be able to check your myUMBC account to view your Financial Aid Awards. If you have any issues locating your package, please click here.
This is such an exciting and nerve racking time for you and your families, and we want to help you in any way we can! If you have any additional questions about your financial aid package, please contact your Financial Aid Counselor.
Don’t know who your Financial Aid Counselor is? Click hereto find out!
I look forward to meeting all of you at New Student Day!
I hope you’re all excited and keeping warm as we prepare for this winter weather here on the east coast! Not to fear, Spring will be here soon enough.
One of our favorite Spring time events is our Just For Juniors day! We put on this event for those students who are preparing to apply to UMBC in the near future. It is a wonderful way to connect with UMBC faculty, staff, and current students. You’ll have the chance to learn more about the application process, financial aid, take a tour, and so much more!
Our February 1st deadline has passed and our office is buckled down reading all the completed applications! Reminder our FAFSA application deadline is tomorrow! Be sure to submit the application to be considered for need-based aid.
Submitted an application? Not heard from us? Be sure your application is complete! You can keep up to date with your application status by logging into your myUMBC account. Your account will show if there are any documents needed to complete the review.
Application complete? Anxious on when you will hear? I have good news! We have begun sending out admission decisions for fall 2017. We will be sending out our regular decisions in batches throughout the spring. Do not worry if you have not heard from us. We will be sending out our next batch of admission decision letters within two weeks. All official admission decisions are sent in the mail. Decisions are being sent to freshman and transfer students.
If you have any questions regarding your application or admission, please call our office 410-455-2292!
For those of you who live near by, I hope you’ve been keeping warm over the last few days! I had the pleasure of spending my holidays in nice warm weather but was greeted with below freezing temperatures when I got back. Check out the beautiful sunset I witnessed just days before returning to the cold!

As we get back into the normal routine, I’d like to remind you all of two very important deadlines that are soon approaching!

For those of you who haven’t submitted your application, you have until February 1st to submit the Common App and all supporting materials! AND if you haven’t already done so, please be sure to submit your FAFSA application by Valentines Day for need-based aid consideration.

I’d like to begin by apologizing for our small hiatus. It’s been a busy time in the world of Admissions! But fear not…WE’RE BACK AT IT AGAIN WITH THE BLOG POSTS!
I also would like to congratulate all of those high school seniors on meeting our November 1st deadline. I’m sure it is a huge relief to have gotten your applications submitted. Now you may be wondering…what happens now?
All of you who applied should have received a confirmation e-mail with instructions on how to check your application status. This is a great way to stay up-to-date with your application and I recommend that you check it regularly. We are in the process of reviewing all of your applications and we are excited to see so many great applicants!
If you have any specific questions during this time, don’t hesitate to reach out! We have started our live twitter chats which is another great way to be connected with us.
Happy November! Believe it or not, we have a few visit opportunities left for those of you who are still deciding if UMBC could be your home for college!

Learn about the transition and social atmosphere on campus, the academic offerings provided, and the support around campus to assist you in succeeding and achieving in a major way!
Happy Wednesday! We’re half way through the week, and I don’t know about you but I’ve been looking forward to Friday since last Friday! 😀
In case you missed our first Retriever Day, NOT TO WORRY. We have two more coming up this Fall. The next one is this Friday, October 14th! Some of you may have the day off school, so what better way to spend your day off than a morning at UMBC?!

That’s right everyone. Today we celebrate UMBC’s 50th birthday!
On September 19th, 1966 UMBC first opened its doors to its first students and it has been such a wonderful 50 years for our amazing institution. This past weekend was the 50th celebration weekend that we had been preparing for and it couldn’t have been any better! From reunions and food, to fireworks and puppies. Yes, puppies! See Pictures here 🙂
Even though this birthday weekend has passed, that does not mean we are done celebrating! This is a year-long celebration and all students, staff, and faculty will continue to share the awesomeness that is UMBC with you all!
One way to experience all that UMBC has to offer is by coming to our first Retriever Day of the Fall! This Saturday, September 24th, 2016 we are hosting our Saturday Retriever Day.
This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about UMBC, tour our campus, chat with members of our community, and much more.
