Throughout the day students will be attending sessions focused on student life, campus living, and academics. Early Action Letter Drop!

Image

My favorite time of year is here! The moment all of my aspiring Retrievers have been waiting for!

(inserts drumroll)

We are excited to announce that at approximately 3 pm yesterday afternoon, Early Action decision letters were released!

img_4919

I want to thank you all for all of your hard work, not only submitting all of your materials by the Early Action deadline of November 1st but for doing well your entire educational career to get you prepared for this moment.

This year we had nearly 6,000 Early Action applicants! I  also want to thank our admissions staff for diligently and relentlessly reviewing every completed application file.We appreciate how patient you all have been and the wait is now over!

There are two possible decisions you can receive in the mail and I will expand on exactly what they mean:

  1. Early Action

Congratulations! It is a wonderful experience to receive admission to a college or university, and even more exciting if this is your first decision letter.

img_0867 img_0869

Your admissions packet contains a wealth of information about UMBC, Orientation, Student Life, and Living on Campus. Please review each section of the packet. During the spring season, we will be hosting various events, both on and off campus, for newly admitted students. Be on the look-out for those dates in the near future!

You will have until May 1st to submit your enrollment deposit so you have some time to decide on the best fit institution for you. Please contact our office if you have any questions in the meantime.

  1. Deferred

For Early Action review, in addition to offers of admission, we send notifications that an application has been deferred to Regular Decision for further consideration. This does not mean you have not been admitted! If you receive a deferral letter, do not be discouraged. This year we had an influx of applications, making Our Early Action review even more competitive. We will begin sending Regular Decision letters in late February. As always, please feel free to contact our office if you have any questions!

Once again, thank you for all of your applications! We truly enjoyed reading them and getting to learn a little more about our future Retrievers!

We encourage you to share your excitement with family, friends, and on social media using our hashtag #UMBCadmit! You never know, you might see yourself on one of our social media accounts. Be sure to follow us @UMBCadmissions!

It’s Travel Season!

I’m so excited to begin Recruitment Travel once again this year! I had a great time last year getting to meet to many of you and visiting your beautiful schools and home towns.

Here’s I picture I took last year when I was in VA Beach!

This year I will have the pleasure of visiting many of the same places. Some of which include: Raleigh, Durham, Northern Virginia, Richmond, and Virginia Beach! I will also be stopping by several schools in Anne Arundel County, Southern Maryland, and the Eastern Shore.

My first day of travel will be this Monday, September 12th and my first stop is North Carolina. If you’ve seen a poster announcing our visit, please be sure stop by!

Be sure to stay updated with us by following our social media accounts @UMBCAdmissions.

Can’t wait to meet you all!

How Neat Is That?!

Happy Monday Everybody!

One of the many unique aspects of UMBC is how much our students, faculty and staff value cross-disciplinary collaboration. There are endless possibilities for students to explore other areas of study outside of their own.

One wonderful example of this is the result of a new course introduced this past Spring 2016 dedicated to “prepare students for careers requiring interdisciplinary, team-based approaches to creative projects” (UMBCNews, 2016).

The “Designing and Developing Effective Mobile Applications” class brought together the Visual Arts, Computer Science, and Electrical Engineering departments to help students create their own apps. How cool is that?!

Our wonderful students came up with many incredible apps, from one that silences your phone from ringing during a meeting or an appointment to a fun puzzle game.

You can learn more about the apps and how the class came to be by clicking here!

Can’t wait to see what great things you all will accomplish during your time at UMBC!

“Colleges That Pay You Back!”

For all my new and future Retrievers, UMBC has been named as one of the nation’s best colleges for students seeking an exceptional education with great career preparation at an affordable price in The Princeton Review’s 2016 Edition of Colleges that Pay You Back! Once again, our fifty-year-old university has been acknowledged for giving our student’s the best bang for their tuition buck.

colleges-that-pay-you-back-cover-227x300Princeton Review’s profile of UMBC notes:

Arguably the “best public college in Maryland,” UMBC is an “extremely diverse school” that manages to maintain a “small community feel.” And from the moment you set foot on campus it’s evident that the university is focused on “providing exceptional education and research opportunities for students.”
