Welcome Back!

The shining sun and cool air greeted our students on their first day of classes, today. Winter break has ended and it is time for our old and new students to get started on their next semester.

Although classes are back in session, that doesn’t mean the fun of winter break has ended. We kick off each semester with Welcome Week. Welcome week is filled with games, activities, and socials so our new students can get acclimated to campus and build friendships.Students are really looking forward to our Big Breakfast and Bingo on Friday night and our super bowl party on Sunday, among other events. A lot of our new transfer students enjoy Tuesday mornings because Off-Campus Student Services hosts a warm delicious breakfast. A fun new activity taking over campus this week is #UMBCsquirrles.

#UMBCsquirrels will connect our students this first week through the art of memes. They are tasked with creating illustrations and memes of what the squirrels think and do around campus. I can’t wait to see what our students create!

Our admissions office is happy to have students back on campus. With the new semester, our counselors are busy reading fall applications and planning our spring travel. We cannot wait to have all of you on campus next year!

New Student Day 2015

Hello my Future Retrievers,

I know it has been awhile since you have heard from me; it’s been a little busy in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. But, I am back with some exciting news!

This upcoming Saturday we are welcoming all Fall 2015 admitted students to the House of Grit, better known as UMBC!  Our New Student Day event invites students to experience our beautiful campus. This event allows us to not only celebrate your admission to UMBC, but it also gives you the opportunity to learn more about the University.

This day is full of activities from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Prospective students and their families will have the chance to attend information sessions, meet current and newly admitted UMBC students, take a walking tour of the campus, and cheer the Retrievers to victory in lacrosse!

If you have not registered for this event yet, please do so by clicking here. You definitely do not want to miss out!

We are excited to see all of you on Saturday. Remember if you take any selfies about the event or at the event, be sure to use the hashtag UMBCadmit!

Best,

Christine 🙂

New Virtual Tours of UMBC Residence Halls!

While checking out the new videos on UMBCtube today I noticed some recent additions in the form of virtual tours of UMBC on-campus housing. The videos are from the Office of Residential Life and feature some of our current students giving tours of the residence halls. I thought these videos were so great! What a nice way for our prospective students to check out the campus! Below is a video of Patapsco Hall, and this link will take you to other videos. Enjoy!
