We often direct our posts here at the Admissions Counselors blog to prospective freshman students, and fail to address our wonderful transfer students. I must apologize for this; especially considering I often work directly with transfer students (I suppose you could say I’m the back-up to our Transfer Coordinator, Kelly Reese). Don’t get us wrong, we love our transfer students, we have hundreds (well actually about 1,100 this year) of transfer student come to UMBC every year! Our transfer students come from all over the place. We have students who transfer from the Maryland two-year institutions, other four-year universities, out-of-state students, and even international transfer students! Our transfer students also enter at different times of the year, with some students entering in the Fall semester, and other entering during the Spring semester. To transfer to UMBC the process is pretty straightforward. Transfer students are able to complete the application online (as well as pay the $50 application fee), or submit a paper application. In addition to the application transfer students must submit official transcripts from any previous college institutions that they have attended. For transfer students who have earned less than 30 college credits at the time of applying, you must also submit your official high school transcripts and official SAT and/or ACT scores. Transfer students who are interested in being considered for any transfer scholarships must also write an essay. And great news, if you are a member of Phi Theta Kappa (the two-year community college Honor Society) then you will be eligible for an application fee waiver. Simply submit a copy of your award and the fee will be waived.
